Acton Town Council Meeting Minutes, October 21, 2024, Approved
- Call to Order, Flag Salute & Roll Call – The meeting was called to order at 6:31 PM by Secretary Jacki Ayer. Present at the meeting – Pam Wolter, Jacki Ayer, June Perkins and Kelly Teno. Absent – Jeremiah Owen.
- Community Comments – Ron Hockman spoke about his property across from The Acton Market Country Store. He has been written up and has NOV’s on his property. We will place on the next Agenda and asked that he send the ATC copies of his NOV’s. Representatives from North Star Minerals gave background information and that they need a new letter from the ATC. The last letter was from 2002. The hearing date is December 11th. We will put this on the next agenda.
- Announcements & Correspondence –
- Library Report – Announced holidays and upcoming events. On November 18th there will be a vaccine clinic.
- Representative Report – Chuck Bostwick from Supervisor Barger’s office announced a motion on illegal mulch and dumping. Carlo Basail from assemblyman Lackey’s office announced that they are not in session and the has been bust visiting events and speaking.
- Sheriff Report – OHV activity always goes up in the winter months. Please call enforcement. He spoke about the food vendors by High Desert. Health Department went out a month ago and shut some down but they all came back. Sheriff can’t arrest anyone if they are on the street. A resident asked about the ones on Sierra Highway and were told that they are all licensed and up to date.
- Suzette Valladeres – She is running for Senator Wilk’s Senate seat. She gave her background in Sacramento and about her and what she hopes to do. Then she opened it up for questions.
- Cali Lakes – This will be on the Board of Supervisors agenda on Oct, 29th. Jacki spoke about how we normally don’t comment on issues outside of Acton but this decision could have direct affect on Acton. Some of the issues are allowing people to live in the RV Park and water quality since their septic is in the riverbed. Jacki Ayer made a motion to write a letter and send someone to speak at the BOS meeting. June Perkins 2nd the motion. The motion carried.
- Cannabis Ordinance – All cannabis businesses will be allowed on all M-1 properties in Acton. They ignored the motion to use buffers from the Board of Supervisors. Jacki Ayer made a motion………Kelly Teno 2nd the motion. The motion carried.
- Cactus Creek – There is talk that the trailer park is being cleaned up and people are moving out. The owner came in about 1 month ago and had the cesspools pumped. Jacki Ayer made a motion to reach out and say this is the law and the permit needs to be revoked. Pam Wolter 2nd the motion. The motion carried.
- BESS Update – Ruth Brock from Acton Takes Action gave an update on hearing and trial dates. Oct 29th is the Franchise hearing and they have a bus going down to speak at the BOS meeting. All the comments will go into the record and will help with the lawsuit. The pre-trial hearing for the lawsuit is on Jan 16, 2025 and hopefully there will be a date to move forward.
- Election – Asked Chuck Bostwick from Supervisor Barger’s office to come to the next meeting to swear in new members.
- Minutes – Tabled
- Councilmembers Comments – Pam made a comment about 3 neighbors who were asked to let someone on their property to reach vacant land that needed to be cleared. June attended the Acton/Agua Dulce Collaborators Club, Seniors Expo in Palmdale, and CERT training.
- Committee Reports – The following committees had reports – Trails, Open Space, and Recreation – meeting last week was cancelled. Bylaws – we will review after the election. Emergency Response & Disaster/Resiliency Plan – June spoke about the latest PSPS event. Beautification/Illegal Dumping – Spoke about the 3 day clean up last weekend. They had a lot of help and filled many roll off dumpsters.
