Planning Commision Ignores ATC and Community Approving Taco Bell

NEWS FLASH…..

PLANNING COMMISSION VOTES THAT FREEWAY SERVING FAST FOOD BUSINESSES ARE “OK” IN ACTON

THE DOOR IS NOW WIDE OPEN FOR ANY TYPE OF COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT IN ACTON BECAUSE PROJECTS ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED TO BE LOW-INTENSITY OR COMMUNITY SERVING!!!!!

Dateline Tuesday September 16, 2015. Los Angeles, California.
The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission voted today to approve the freeway-dependent Taco Bell “drive-thru” fast food business. The vote was taken quickly by the Commissioners without discussion or comment on the concerns raised by the community or the nearly 150 letters of opposition that had been filed. Residents from Acton pointed out that the project does not comply with the CSD, the zoning code, the Countywide General Plan or the Antelope Valley Area Plan. They also pointed out that the developer’s own traffic study showed the project would reduce cumulative traffic service levels at the Crown Valley intersection from a “C” to a “D” [The only thing worse than a “D” is an “F”]. None of these concerns were discussed or even noted by the Commissioners.

With this vote, the Planning Commission has completely reversed its position regarding freeway-serving commercial businesses in Acton. Just a few short months ago, the Planning Commission voted unanimously to “prohibit high-intensity regional commercial uses that serve travelers along State Route 14” Today, it voted to approve a new high-intensity regional fast food “drive-thru” business that will pull more than 1000 car trips off the freeway and through our community every day.

NOW THERE IS NOTHING TO STOP RITE AID, DOLLAR GENERAL,
OR ANY OTHER FREEWAY-SERVING BUSINESS IN ACTON…….

If you are concerned about this, and want to know what can be done, please come to the Acton Town Council meeting on Monday, September 21 at the Acton-Agua Dulce Library. The meeting begins at 7:30.

  1. It’s a shame that, because of this ruling, Acton will lose its “designated rural” standing with the County of LA and the protection that this designation provides.

  2. Who are the members of this planning commission? And do we have their email addresses? Is there anything else we can do?

  3. This very problem was discussed over 1 1/2 years ago. Incorporation was also generally discussed to give the Acton Town Council more control in local affairs and development. At that time Mike Hughes mentioned there are pro’s and con’s to being incorporated and appeared to be leaning against incorporation.

Has any further thought or research progressed regarding possible incorporation so that Acton residents have more influence in this regard? While we can write letters, sign petitions and complain this doesn’t appear to be productive or effective. Your thoughts?

I am happy to see that the county has approved Taco Bell in Acton. I believe that Rite-Aid would also be value added to the community.
The members of the council need to realize that the community CANNOT continue to grow without more businesses locating here, however they seem intent on stifling the development of this town and attempting to shape it to their impractical and distorted vision.

  7. I have lived here for 7 years. I would love to be able to eat and shop in my own town of Acton. Why do we have to shop at the two local “markets” and pay outrageous prices for our food? We are not a rich community. It is time to bring Taco Bell , Rite Aid and any other businesses to our community. This will bring jobs for our young and old and we can actually shop and eat where we live.
